Mamiya Slide

This is from my first roll of slide film through my Mamiya 645. This camera is slowly working its way up my favourite cameras to take on trips with me. I wish I could afford the 645 AFDII but that is a bit of a pipe dream right now. The images are just scanned and some have had exposure changes but they are presented as is. This is the same for all my film images (the odd B&W conversions snakes in). The film I used was Fuji Provia 100f RDPIII and I have plenty more to shoot (maybe some 35mm too?), so keep your eyes peeled!

As always, these images are low res. If you want to see a high res version, just drop me a message.

Wales Trip-2I think this one is my favourite of the set.

Mamiya-ahoy!

So with my normal job, my photography has taken a back seat to all things chaotic and festive. I finally got around to dropping off some photos that I took around the Christmas period. They aren’t particularly festive, which is why I probably liked them so much.

The Mamiya is a bit of a unforgiving beast but when you take your time and exercise a lot of patience it pays off. I hope you like these photos as much as I do. They were all taken on Ilford HP5, one of my personal gold standards for both 35mm and 120mm.

Mamiya + Music

I’ve owned my Mamiya 645 for a fair while and in all honesty I’ve not used it that much. This has been due to the fact I couldn’t find anyone locally to develop it, I thought it was broken after a very nasty fall (luckily all is perfect) and I had no way of putting the developed film anywhere other than print …

… that’s until I purchased an Epson V500. Took a fair bit of fiddling around to find the right setting, still not convinced I’ve found the right balance between quality / file size / ability to edit. These two shots are just an example of what it is capable of. Now I have somewhere I can develop the film (going to attempt to do this myself, expect a post about it!) and have plenty of expired stock to experiment with. I also ordered a fairly tatty lens from eBay for landscapes so I am given more flexibility of what I can shoot effectively.

Square Format

Shooting with my Mamiya brings a great joy that can easily be forgotten, square format negatives. Composing images when shooting square format is a whole new challenge in itself, you have to fight the urge of the normal ‘rules’ of composition.

I unfortunately  don’t have a way of scanning in my negatives properly as of yet but the top 2 are very crude snaps of recent negatives from a WAITT Unsigned session. The bottom 2 are recent digital photos but cropped to 1×1 and edited to produce similar effects of my Mamiya (without the amazingly high contrast that the Mamiya offers)
